Job Description

Dare to change

Frontline is a charity with a mission to transform the lives of vulnerable children by recruiting and developing outstanding individuals to be leaders in social work and broader society. We are working towards this through the Frontline and Firstline programmes, and by building a movement of leaders in and outside of social work as part of our Fellowship.

Our two-year Leadership Development programme offers outstanding graduates and career changers an exciting new route into one of Britain's toughest and most rewarding professions. We prioritise hands-on experience through practice-based learning and you will benefit from intensive practical and academic training, tailored to your needs, as one of a new generation of children's social workers.

What we offer

Following a five-week residential training programme, you will spend two years working in a local authority children's services department, where you will start your career in social work. You will work directly with children, families, schools, courts and the police, to empower families to achieve positive change.

The first year qualifies you as a social worker through direct work with children and families. In the second year you will work as a newly qualified social worker responsible for your own caseload, and will complete a fully-funded master's qualification.

Social work is a leadership profession in which you must inspire, persuade and bring out the best in diverse groups of people. To help you develop those skills you will benefit from our leadership development coaching, which will support you to work with purpose to bring about change in a range of challenging settings.

What are we looking for?

We're looking for your potential to become an outstanding children's social worker, and will be exploring the evidence of your ability through the following competencies:

    • Motivation
    • Self-awareness
    • Resilience
    • Effective communication
    • Empathy and relationships
    • Analysis and adaptability
    • Leadership

To be eligible to apply for the Frontline Leadership Development programme, you need:

  • A 2:1 or higher in your undergraduate degree (predicted or obtained).
  • At least grade C (or equivalent) in GCSE Maths and English.
  • Your application must also demonstrate competence in IT as well as spoken and written English.
  • Unfortunately we're unable to accommodate those already studying towards a social work qualification or who are already qualified.

Earn As You Learn

YEAR 1 - Tuition fees and Summer Institute accommodation will be covered by Frontline. In your first year you will receive a tax and NI exempt bursary between £16,756 - £19,591 depending on location.

YEAR 2 - Earn a newly qualified social work salary between £25k - £35k depending on local authority and location. Complete a fully-funded master's degree.
