Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine

Permanent Part Time Position

(6.25 hours per week)

Ballarat Health Services are currently accepting Expressions of Interest for a part time Specialist Pain Medicine Physician within the Department of Anaesthesia.

We are looking for a positive, enthusiastic, team orientated Specialist Pain Medicine Physician to join the Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine. The Specialist Pain Medicine Physician will provide high quality clinical and non-clinical services for the benefit of the patients of Ballarat Health Services. You will have Fellowship or eligibility for Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine Australia New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FFPMANZCA).

The Multidisciplinary Pain Service at Ballarat Health Services consists of a well-established acute pain service, chronic pain service and cancer pain service.

Acute Pain Service - Support by the Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine with regular acute pain ward rounds. We have a dedicated full time Acute Pain Nurse Consultant.

Chronic Pain Service - Consists of a multidisciplinary team of specialist Pain Medicine Physician, physiotherapists, psychologists and occupational therapists. We deliver our services through:-

Medical clinic - weekly

Pain Education and Pain Management Programme - (9 week programme)

Interventional Pain Medicine - fortnightly sessions

Case Conferences

We also have a good working relationship with Palliative Care specialists and Neurologists.

Cancer Pain Service - We work closely with Palliative Care specialists and Oncologists.

The opportunity for research and audits exists within the department and is actively supported by the Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine. We have recently appointed two research nurses in the Department to facilitate research.

The Department is in the process of applying for the training unit status with Faculty of Pain Medicine.

Ballarat Health Services comprises the Base Hospital (221 acute beds), Queen Elizabeth Centre (Sub Acute Care 70 beds) and Psychiatric Services (67 beds]. New short stay unit and modern, emergency, critical care, ambulatory, aged care and rehabilitation facilities uniquely integrate in-patient, ambulatory, community and home based services. Ballarat Health Services is a major training site for the University of Melbourne and Deakin Rural Clinical Schools. Senior staff are strongly committed to teaching and the professional development of Interns, HMOs and Registrars.

All surgery specialties are catered for with the exception of cardiac surgery and neurosurgery.
Medical students from the University of Melbourne (Rural Clinical School) and Deakin Clinical School attend and currently undertake their anaesthetic training in the department.
A long established culture of audit exists, with M&M Meetings being held every second week, and reports prepared and presented in the VCCAMM format.

You will be a registered medical practitioner (AHPRA). FFPMFANZCA essential.
